Bookdonors is a not for profit social enterprise based in Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders and they trade in used books for the benefit of people, charities and the environment. 100% of their sales are used to fulfil their social mission, which is to:-

  • Provide flexible adaptable employment opportunities

  • To help protect our precious environment

  • To provide additional income to a range of charities

  They fulfil their objectives by:-

  • Offering opportunities to people (younger & older) who find work difficult to obtain

  • Providing supported employment for those with disabilities, which otherwise make it difficult for them to integrate into a conventional workplace

  • Re-using & recycling unwanted books that would otherwise have gone to landfill

  • Purchasing unwanted books

The company has worked with the Retail Division for 5 years and collects books from the charity shops in Scotland.

Tom Kenny, Managing Director writes

‘ We consider working with charity shop suppliers a two way process, that over time becomes a partnership. The code of conduct was a good opportunity for us to take on best practice and have an independant review of our processes.
