Roary the Lion celebrates opening of our Middlesbrough donation centre

We are delighted to announce the opening of our 18th donation centre on Tuesday the 17th August. Like all our donation centres, Middlesbrough will offer affordable, second-hand furniture and other household items, as well as quality fashion.

By shopping at our donation centre, customers will not only find a great bargain, they will also make a positive impact on other people’s lives as the funds raised go to help The Salvation Army’s work.

The new site is based in central Middlesbrough near to the city centre, on Newport Road, one of the main routes into Middlesbrough. During the setup, the team has received many local donations consisting of both furniture and clothing items.

The local community has been very engaging and welcoming, Gareth Wadsworth, donation centre manager said: “We were struggling for bric-a-brac but we put a post on Facebook and the response has been overwhelming which helped finish the set up and the donations are still coming in.” When asked about the opening, Gareth said that “customers can expect a safe and friendly experience while shopping in a well-stocked store.”

Lots of customers queued on the first day and there was a very special visitor from Middlesbrough FC – their mascot Roary the Lion was on hand to help shoppers. Roary worked behind the till and needed a rest too.

The donation centre offers a free furniture collection service as well as thousands of bargains. And if you have a few hours to spare, why not think about becoming a volunteer? It`s great fun and you can enjoy lots of benefits including first-class training, access to our wellbeing platform, as well as being part of a great team!
