Brighter times and new beginnings in our charity shops

By Andreea Dumitru

Spring is always seen as a representation of new beginnings, of growth and renewal and, this year, it came with a promise of brighter times ahead.  As the national lockdown eased, the retail shops and non-essential businesses were allowed to reopen and welcome back customers.

Our store managers and volunteers were beyond excited with the news and a week before their grand reopenings, they huddled (in a safe and social distanced environment) and put their creative minds together to plan stunning shop windows and in-store displays;  each store as unique and beautiful as another, and a wonderful way to celebrate reopening.

Spring, pastels and flowers have been a major inspiration for our shops, as some of them prepared ‘Ready for Summer’ displays; some took retro, vintage, chic themes, and others transported us to staycations and all the things we need to enjoy our time in the sunshine.

Our shops in England were the first to welcome back their customers, with an array of chromatic effects and stunning summer dresses. Our Hemel Hempstead shop chose to display warm colours and outfits bursting with energy, while our Banbury Superstore chose a chic route, with an amalgam of vintage treasures.

The Widnes shop displayed amazing creativity and used donations consisting of men’s shirts to create a stunning dress for their window display.  Inspired by the pastels, the shop manager and her team worked the entire day to put this stunning sixties-style dress on full display and the customers loved the results. Their regional neighbours, the Mexborough shop chose to cascade warmth with a yellow-black window display, with trendy and eye catching outfits.

Only two weeks later, our Scotland shops were given the go ahead to reopen, and our colleagues jumped at the opportunity to bring their best offers to long-missed customers.  Displays included an array of spring/summer items, picnic sets and bright pieces of furniture. Our Dumbarton shop showcased a display of red/blue summer collection while our Arbroath shop put their best foot forward and presented hundreds of shoes and boots at amazing prices.

It’s safe to say the reopenings were a success and our wonderful customers were beyond excited with the new bargains they were able to gather in each and every one of our shops. We also received wonderful donations and our shops and volunteers are busy sorting and preparing  thousands of new offers every day.

Thank you to all our donors, customers, and of course our colleagues, for your continued support.
